We have been commissioned to produce the BBC podcast for the brand new BBC One dance talent show The Greatest Dancer. This high-profile eight-part series, the first Syco/Thames co-production for the broadcaster, begins on Saturday, 5 January at 8pm.
The Greatest Dancer aims to uncover the UK’s best dancers from every background: Bollywood, ballet, jazz, jive, tap, tango and more. It is hosted by singer and presenter Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo, from multi-award winning dance troupe Diversity. Leading the charge to discover The Greatest Dancer will be the three Dance Captains, who have a wealth of experience in dance and performance: multi-platinum-selling singer Cheryl; Broadway and Glee star Matthew Morrison; and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse. The 10-part podcast, which will go behind the scenes each week with special guests and backstage access, will be presented by BBC Radio 1’s Mollie King and Jordan Banjo. The first episode goes live on Friday 4 January.
Adam Uytman, Head of Content says: “The Greatest Dancer promises to be one of the most exciting shows of the New Year and we are delighted to be part of it. We are looking forward to sharing the latest backstage action, drawing on the host of talent from across the world of dance as they give the performances of their lives.
“Podcasting is the perfect way to build, engage and retain an audience for any TV series, and they partner particularly well with entertainment shows of this calibre. The nation is developing an extremely healthy appetite for audio-on-demand and we are delighted to be at the forefront of the growth of this really exciting medium.”
The first episode of The Greatest Dancer Podcast will be available on BBC Sounds from Friday 4 January with new episodes every Sunday.
