MIPFormats, part of leading TV Festival MIPTV, is the place to go if you’re in the entertainment industry. As a leading provider of podcasts to the TV industry, it was only natural that Wisebuddah was asked to take centre stage this year. Our MD, Tim Hammond, and Head of Client Relations & New Business, Josh Adley, were both in attendance, having some really interesting discussions about the interface between podcasting and TV content, with a strong Wisebuddah presence in MIPFormat’s live sessions too.
In live session ‘Unavoidable Diversification’, Tim was joined by Sarah Edwards (Sony Pictures), Ben Barker (Monterosa) and host Mikko Silvennoinen (Viacom) to explore why TV businesses need to create and seek out opportunities outside of traditional broadcast, to maximise both audience figures and revenue streams. Tim explained how podcasts are an essential part of the ecosystem surrounding a piece of TV content, citing the success of our most recent piece of work as an example, and explaining how podcasts can also be used in the development of any show. “The Greatest Dancer podcast helped deepen engagement with the show,” Tim said. “There are myriad examples of great radio turning into great TV, so the idea of looking at audio for originating ideas is interesting. The world of originating formats in podcast is now a really exciting space to be!”
Tim also hosted ‘New Funding Partners: Looking For The Next Formats’ in which Antoine Bodet (Alliance Entreprendre), John Nolan (Apex Content) and Anna Brakenhielm (Consurge Content Bureau), discussed content finance and new funding models. They explored why financiers are increasingly looking at both the on- and off-screen success of IP when considering any investment.
Tim also joined the C21 podcast episode about podcasting and TV. Listen to the episode here.
